Showers Of Blessings

God by His word promised that there shall be showers. God is not a man that will lie, whatever He says He’s going to do, He will do it. If God has promised you anything in the beginning of the year, this is the time of the manifestation. So, the month of October we will encounter divine showers in our various lives. As children of God need to know the time of harvest, and when it comes, its our duty to enter the harvest field.

A lot of people want to be blessed, which is God’s plan for us but we have to be a blessing to God. Those that qualify for showers of blessings are people who want mighty things from God. These people know how to ask God hard things knowing that it’s only God that can do it. Elisha prepared himself from day one in order to receive Elijah’s blessings; because he prepared himself, he knew what he was looking and waiting for (2 Kings 2:9-10, 1-12)

To receive our rain of blessings, we  must have a strong desire to posses it. A passionate desire to obtain it from God. Those who are under the threat of dryness and desertification will be passionate in their desire for rain and the blessings it brings.

There some things we need to do if we are passionate about having a showers of blessing:

1. Confess your sins: Most of the time when rain ceases, it could be as result of our sin and it will do us good if we all realize this fact and confess our sin to God so that our showers main return. Check yourself and examine your life because sin blocks our access to his promises. Sin attracts curses and repels blessings, this is why we must depart from iniquity immediately in order to experience showers of blessings. (Proverbs 28:13, 2 Chronicles 7:13-14).

2. Prepare for the rain: God's promise of blessings brings a sense of refreshing in a time of drought. God’s promise to His people to bless them as they seek Him. The period of time in which this was written is one of barrenness, due to the people of God being misled and not following His ways. God promises that a time of blessings will come as His people seek Him in Spirit and truth. So we must get ourselves set and ready in other to access this blessings Seeds are prepared for planting. You should begin to think what you will have to sow to God that you may enjoy for long the prosperity that the showers will bring.

3. Have faith that the rain will come: We must also have expectation, if indeed we seek God’s showers upon our lives. In our passage today, God promises the showers of blessings upon His people. It is important to know how profound that promise is. The Hebrew word for “shower” in this passage above means to rain violently, to pour down in torrents of rain. This promise is not for droplets but for a drenching. We must believe that God can do what He promised. Isaiah 44:26 makes us to understand that God “…confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers;” You must be a believer. You must be a bible Christian. If you doubt the word of the Lord, whose word will you choose to believe? If you cannot believe God, then you are truly hopeless. Elisha, without fear looked at the kings and told them “Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.” God has blessed us with our father in the Lord and the entire pastoral team to speak into and over your life. May you not look outside for what you have in abundance within. Remember the words of Jehoshaphat in 2Chronicles 20: 20, “…Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”. Your faith in God guarantees your eternity but your faith in those He has set over you guarantees your keeping and growth until you are ripe for eternity at a good old age. Believe your man of God. He is the custodian of your spiritual, physical and material health, prosperity and growth.

THANKSGIVING

The word “Thanksgiving” can be defined as the expression of gratitude, especially to almighty God. One of the great commandments is to give thanks to God, for all he has done for us. According to Psalm 100:4 we are to “enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his Courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name”. Christ, himself, was the perfect example of obeying this commandment.

It is also giving thanks to God for many blessings which should not be limited to only good times but also bad times thereby giving us the opportunity to demonstrate our faith in God. Thanksgiving will draw our hearts out to God and keep us engaged with him, it will take our attention from ourselves and give the Holy spirit room in our hearts.

Some of benefits of thanksgiving include:

  • It unlocks many doors
  • Whenever thanksgiving goes up, showers of blessings automatically comes down - Psalm 100:5
  • It strengthens Faith - strengthens our dependence on God for every provision and upholds the biblical truths on the faithfulness of God
  • It keeps our lives clear of darkness, anxiety, sin and deception. Rom 1:21, Phil 4:6
  • It draws us closer to God

We can show thanksgiving to God by:

  • By remembering him in our thoughts, words and deeds. It is impossible to give gratitude to God if we never think or speak of him. We can also memorize the scriptures to remember his promises and show gratitude.
  • By identifying his lordship over our lives-Counting our blessings and realize that we are who and what we are because of God. 1 Thess 5:18..Reflecting on all God has done for us in all areas of our lives i.e spiritually, financially, physically etc. especially the sacrificing of our Lord Jesus Christ which is the greatest gift of all.
  • By giving thanks in prayer-We should thank God as often as we pray that we should have his spirit in us to teach us to pray. We should bear it in mind that the prayer that begins with trustfulness and passes on into waiting, will always end in thankfulness, triumph and praise. We show our dependence on God through prayerful thanksgiving which should be done daily.
  • By praise: We should praise and thank God through songs with the use of musical instruments, clapping of hands etc. Eph 5;19, Ps 69:30, Jer 30:19.
  • By repentance- Always being conscious of our wrongdoings and confessing our sins is a way of showing gratitude to God .Gratitude is also the foundation upon which repentance is built because it shows we acknowledge the mercy of God. Repentance cleanses us of our sins and brings about additional blessings if done with a sincere heart and willingness to desist from such sins.
  • By expressing gratitude to others: showing gratitude to people and helping others is a way of showing gratitude to God. This is seen in Matt 25:40- which says “Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me”. This is thanksgiving to God by serving Him through others.

Thanksgiving to God is fundamental to a believer because it is the only means of communicating with God which is inclusive of worship, prayer, faith, holiness, giving and sacrifice. We are all encouraged to reach out to the unsaved and encourage them to come along with you and your family. And as we give thanks to God in this service,God would place a seal over our Blessings via the prophetic word.

JESUS IS LORD!
