"And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives1Sam 30:8/18 (KJV)

Having wandered into enemy territory and following his own strategic designs, David found himself overtaken by fierce warriors - the Amalekites. Defeated and despairing, in desperation he went to his Father for encouragement and strength. But David didn't just say to God, "Encourage me so I can do more of the same."  David recognized that a different hand needed to be at the helm of his life so he didn't continue barreling ahead on his own. Before David made his own decisions about how to proceed against the Amalekites, he went to the priest and asked for the ephod which God used to communicate His will.

We read in our texts today that when David asked God how he should proceed in his life, God gave David three distinct pieces of advice when dealing with the enemy. And this advice can help us in dealing with any enemy that could potentially bring us down spiritually, emotionally and physically. We ought to behave ourselves everyday as though we had no dependence on any other but God.

The Three distinct advice God is giving us today is, "PursueOvertake and Recover."

In our language today these three words mean:

            1.  Pursue: To proceed along, follow or continue with a specified course of action or a plan. To strive for, to seek after.
            2.  Overtake: To catch up with and pass by.
            3.  Recover: To get back, to regain, to restore, to procure from something unusable something valuable. To bring under observation again.

Let's take this wisdom and apply it directly to our daily lives, as David did.

We sometimes get off track and loose focus when the devil comes at us with tribulations but if we go to our heavenly Father and rely on His encouragement and strength and if we ask Him for His guidance in all we do, He will lead us on a specified course of action that fulfills His purpose in our lives. As we strive after our Father's goal for our lives, and seek His way, we will not only catch up with, but will pass by the "enemies" that threaten to derail us and we will be restored to the place God wants us to be. God will take what we think is an unusable life and turn it into just what He needs. He finds the hidden diamonds buried in each of us. And this ultimately leads us to be within the observing eye of our Father.
